Chicken Crossing - The Video Game

A web-based 2-D platform adventure where a rebellious rooster flees the farm, only to realise that life on the outside brings its own set of dangers.

This game's resolution is 1024 x 576, with the 16:9 aspect ratio typically used for Youtube videos. Handy if you wish to record the gameplay.
Keyboard scrolling is disabled on this page, for obvious reasons.

Context
On a farm one day, a farmer is preparing to cull his older livestock. He mistakenly leaves the gate to the chicken coop open whilst he tends to an urgent matter. Seizing the opportunity, one rooster darts out. Noticing the escape attempt, the farmer charges for the lone rooster in a spontaneous impulse, forgetting to close the coop gate to prevent the others from escaping too.
Why the error in judgment you ask? The short answer is spite. The long answer is that the rooster had a turbulent history with the farmer, frequently pecking and biting his fingers and beating him with his wings whilst he came to dispense the grain feed.
Through his zealous vendetta against the rooster, the farmer was adamant to prevent him from fleeing with his life, even at the expense of losing a few hens in the process.
How will the story play out? The good news is that the outcome is in your hands!

Left and Right arrow keys for sideways motion
Spacebar to jump
Up arrow key when airborne to flap to gain altitude
P to pause

Update
Although this page has undergone an extensive makeover to improve its search engine ranking, visual appeal and accessibility, unfortunately the same cannot be said for the game itself. I consider developing my browser game further amongst the least of my priorities at the moment. Any refinements I may make to the game in future would be first qualitative (graphics, sound etc.), second quantitative (additional levels). Nevertheless, it has been a monumental feat to get the game to its current state, especially considering that I am working on this project alone, so enjoy it as it is for now.
I understand that the recent updates I made to the webpage made this game even less playable on GitHub Pages than before, therefore I have made the game available to download.
To play this game locally on your PC, do the following:

1. Navigate to the Download section below and click on the corresponding button
2. Locate the ZIP file in your downloads, right-click it and extract the folder to your local disk
3. Open the extracted folder and left-click the Launcher shortcut to play the game
4. [Optional] Copy the Launcher shortcut and paste it to your desktop to make the game quicker and easier to access
